ScotStringNZ: FAQs

19-26 April 2025

Q:
Do I need to bring my own bedding and towels?
A:
We will provide a pillow, pillowcase, mattress protector and two blankets. You can either bring your own sheets and towels or hire them for an additional cost of $10 (for $20 we’ll make the bed too!).

Q:
Do I have to be able to learn by ear?
A:
Ideally, yes. You will find that you learn in a different way, remembering different details and retaining the accent more. However we will provide the music for anyone who prefers to use it. You might like to try leaving it to one side and using it to help you learn by ear! Or you can bring a music stand.

Q:
I’m from out of town. What time will you come and pick me up?
A:
We will assign transfer slots based on people’s arrival times. When you book your transport to Auckland, please bear in mind that we cannot arrive at the camp before 4pm, so we will not begin transfers before 3pm.
Our drivers will be volunteers from among your fellow students. It would be kind to offer to assist with petrol costs.

Q:
What is the cost for the fiddle week?
A:
Adults/wage earners    NZ$890 (late enrolments $950).
Students                    $700
Commuters                $500

Q:
Is there a concert at the end of the week?
A:
Yes! It is not compulsory, but we invite you to join us for an early afternoon student concert on Saturday 26 April, followed by a chance to have one last meal together. It’ll be our chance to give back to the wider Auckland community, share what we have learned during the week and relax with friends both new and old.
